HIV-1 TAT VACCINES:DISCOVERY PHASE LEADS |
| Tat-Env complex |
| Basic science studies and pre-clinical studies are ongoing with the aim to identify and characterize the immunological interaction between Tat and Env , and to identify the role of this interaction in preventing HIV infection and/or progression to AIDS. |
| Monoclonal antibodies |
An effort is underway to identify and characterize antibodies found in long-term nonprogressors. These are individuals who have been HIV-positive for years without developing AIDS.
The aim of these studies is to develop monoclonal antibodies (antibodies originating from a single cell) that may be used as passive immunotherapy in infected patients. These monoclonal antibodies may be used in conjunction with antiretroviral therapy (ART) or may partially or fully replace ART. |
