HIV-1 TAT VACCINES: FIRST GENERATION |
|
|
|
First generation Tat vaccine candidate (code T1-alpha) |
| |
T1-alpha is a vaccine formulation containing biologically active Tat suspended in a formulation buffer and stored at -80°C until administration. |
| |
| The Italian team at the National AIDS Center has completed 2 clinical trials with T1-alpha in Italy. The trials were conducted with the sponsorship of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (the Italian NIH) and the financial support of the Italian Ministry of Health. Completed trials include a phase I preventive trial (completed in May 2005 - click here for ClinicalTrials.gov record ) and a phase I therapeutic trial (completed in June 2005 - click here for ClinicalTrials.gov record ). |
| |
| The studies showed that Tat is well tolerated, safe, and capable of eliciting an immune response in vaccinated patients. On the basis of these favorable results the National AIDS Center started a phase II study with T1 alpha in Italy (ISS T-002 - click here) and is organizing a parallel phase II study in South Africa (ISS T-003 - click here). |
